This historic property includes public access to the beautiful Mast Cove\, the site of the Perkins Grist Mill\, and the Clement Clark Boathouse. Set within walking distance to the lower village\, it is a unique setting we encourage everyone to visit.\n\n\n\nThe Mill was built in 1749 and operated until 1939. In 1973 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and sadly\, was destroyed by an arsonist in 1994.\n\nSharon will take you through the history of both the Grist Mill and Clem Clark Boathouse while in the remaining space. Enjoy light refreshments while learning why the property has been featured in photographs and paintings for decades.\n\n\n\nPlease Park at the Kennebunkport Fire Station Log\, located at 30 North Street and walk to the Clem Clark Boathouse at 8 Mill Lane.

Graves Memorial Public Library’s 2026 series of authors and speakers celebrating America’s 250th anniversary\, Kennebunkport Historical Society historian Sharon Cummins will share stories of Arundel citizens during the American Revolution\, at home and away\, on Wednesday\, May 27\, at 4 p.m. at the Louis T. Graves Library. \nThis special event\, held in collaboration with the Kennebunkport Historical Society and part of the Louis T. Graves Library’s Patsy Bray Mahoney Lecture Series\, is free and open to the public. Cummins’s talk will cover events ranging from receiving word of the first shots fired at Lexington and Concord to the naval battle at Cape Porpoise Harbor. To reserve seats call (207) 967-2778. \nCummins\, a Maine native and historian associated with the Kennebunkport Historical Society\, is a popular speaker and writer\, sharing her well-researched topics\, tales\, and archival photos on the lecture circuit\, through a weekly column called “Throwback Thursday\,” and the society’s social media. Her work emphasizes preserving local archival treasures and making them accessible to the public. Her topics include the 1867 murder trial of Jane M. Swett\, early 20th century school history\, and local landmarks. \nCummins’s lecture is the first in a series of three semi quincentennial events hosted by the Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library. The second event features two Washington political insiders—Jean Becker\, chief of staff for President George H.W. Bush\, and Tom Collamore\, former presidential aide\, discussing their new book “Don’t Tell the President: The Best\, Worst & Mostly Untold Stories from Presidential Advance” at the historic Kennebunk River Club on June 18th. On July 30th\, iconic filmmaker Ken Burns comes to town\, appearing at Kennebunk High School in conversation with Rob Caldwell\, one of Maine’s premier TV news anchors. Mr. Stockman\, who has been an integral part of the Kennebunkport firefighting \ncommunity for the past 45 years\, will share his extensive research and knowledge on the history \nof firefighting and the impact of the 1887 fire on the town. \n\nMr. Stockman began his firefighting career in 1977 when he purchased Cape Hardware and \njoined the Wildwood Volunteer Fire Company. Over the years\, he has held various positions\, \nincluding Lieutenant\, Captain\, Assistant Chief\, and Training Officer. On the administrative side\, \nhe served as Secretary and President. Since the formation of the Kennebunkport Fire \nDepartment (KPFD) in 2005\, Mr. Stockman has served as Safety Officer #8\, a title he currently \nholds. \n\nIn addition to his firefighting duties\, Mr. Stockman runs his own company\, J & M Lighting \nDesign\, Inc.\, the first firm in Northern New England to offer specialized lighting and theatre \ndesign services. He also serves as Chair of the Board for the Kennebunkport Emergency \nMedical Service\, Inc. (KEMS)\, the local non-profit ambulance service. \n\nMr. Stockman’s lecture will delve into the history of the Great Fire of 1887\, its impact on the \ntown\, and the evolution of firefighting techniques in Kennebunkport. Nappi will engage attendees in an exploration of recent storms and weather phenomena\, questioning whether we are witnessing increasingly severe weather patterns. \nWith recent coastal storms and flooding capturing public attention\, Jason Nappi’s presentation promises to provide invaluable insight into the cause of these events. Drawing upon his extensive experience\, including his tenure as chief meteorologist for KADN/KLAF-TV in south Louisiana\, Nappi will offer comparisons between current weather events and historical occurrences in the Kennebunkport area. \nDuring his time along the Gulf Coast\, Nappi navigated through one of the most challenging hurricane seasons on record\, alongside various other weather emergencies such as tornado outbreaks and ice storms.
