Welcome Back to Goose Rocks Beach 2024 Season

The Fourth of July weekend has always opened the summer season for the kid-friendly community of Goose Rocks Beach. But when their casino was lost to the Fire of 1947, The Goose Rocks Beach Association with Dorothy Mignault at the helm, moved heaven and earth, and a 50-ton building to rectify the situation. The Kennebunkport Historical Society has in its collection a scrapbook that chronicles the evolution of the Goose Rocks Beach Association after the Fire of 47.

The Community of Goose Rocks Beach was heavily scarred after the Fire of 1947.

Most of you probably know the story of the sea voyage of the 1891 Ramanascho Hall from Kennebunk Beach to Goose Rocks Beach on September 22, 1951. Its arrival at its current location as the Goose Rocks Beach Community House was just the beginning of the association’s efforts to make new fun for the heavily scarred community, especially its children.

Here it is in its original location at Kennebunk Beach.

The Wheel Parade, which kids of Goose Rocks Beach may now refer to as the Annual Bike Parade, went right down Kings Highway past Allen’s-by-the-Sea in 1952. By 1960, there were 64 entries. Did you or your kids ever participate in the Wheel Parade (or bike parade) or get an ice cream cone from the Goose Rocks Beach Dairy Cart? Do you have any memories or old photographs to share here?

These photographs of the Fireman’s Fair were donated by Barbara Barwise. What a marvelous opportunity for her kids to ride in a 1928 Fire Engine. Do you remember the Fireman’s Fair? Do you have any old photographs of it to share here?
